Quick review of “A Prophet”

20 12 2009

A Prophet premiered at the Cannes film festival earlier this year and made quite a splash.  Since then it’s been rounding up numerous critics awards and has been named as France’s official entry in the race for best foreign film at the Oscars.  It’s a violent, stylish prison drama detailing a young Arab inmate’s rise to power.

I was shocked to see that this is star Tahir Rahim’s first film, and if it weren’t for him being an unknown actor in a foreign film I’d say he’d be a lock for numerous awards.  Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

RATING:  8/10
